A search is under way in western Russia after six prisoners broke free from a prison in the city of Lipetsk, with two caught so far.

"Currently, all security forces are working together to find them; an inter-agency group is working,” Governor Igor Artamonov wrote on Telegram, calling for calm.

He said it is understandable that the news of the prison break has caused unrest but people should not panic, warning that there would be a lot of fake news reports. "The information war continues, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces will not miss the chance to exploit the situation,” he wrote. He later added that two of the fugitives had been detained in the Tambov region.
