Filipinos have once again captured the spotlight on the international stage, showcasing their talent in The Doha Players’ recent production of ‘We Will Rock You’, (often abbreviated as WWRY).

The show was held from October 24 to 25 at the THIS Theatre in Hamilton International School, Mesaimeer. Prominent Filipino performers included Joe Doronila as Galileo, Shaine Ramos as Scaramouche (Alternate), Elle Tucker as Killer Queen (Alternate), and Bennette Chan as Oz, alongside Kevin Bitoon in the ensemble.

Doronila’s portrayal of Galileo resonated with the audience, blending depth and passion from his extensive musical theatre background.

Ramos brought fresh energy to her role as Scaramouche, engaging the audience with her dynamic performance. Tucker delivered a standout portrayal of the iconic Killer Queen, while Chan, making her debut as Oz, infused the ensemble with vitality.

Bitoon’s professional dance background contributed to visually captivating choreography.

Previously, Doronila played Grover in an earlier production of ‘The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical’, alongside fellow Filipino artists Lexine Calderon and Martin Fazon. He will return for an upcoming show from April 9 to 26, where he will portray the main character, Seymour, in the musical ‘Little Shop of Horrors’.

The Doha Players, a non-profit community theatre group in Qatar for seven years, presented WWRY, a jukebox musical featuring songs by the British rock band Queen. The story follows a renegade group known as the Bohemians as they strive to restore the free exchange of thought and culture in a dystopian society.

With 20 classic Queen songs, the show was a lively celebration that encouraged audiences to dance and sing along.
