Schoolchildren in Qatar will be granted holiday when the country hosts the FIFA World Cup in November and December of 2022, Minister of Education and Higher Education HE Dr Mohammed bin Abdul Wahid al Hammadi has said.
The leave has been given as the classrooms will be used for World Cup-related activities and several students are planning to join the voluntary services associated with the mega event, the minister said.
Hammadi made this announcement during his visit to the 2022 World Cup festival at the Al Yarmouk Independent Preparatory School for Boys.
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education will use all its resources to ensure the success of the World Cup, he said, adding that the administration is now working on several festivals and events to prepare students for World Cup-related voluntary services
The World Cup festival is being organised under the patronage of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, with the participation of the Qatar Stars League and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.
The festival is being held to coincide with the launch of the countdown to the next World Cup on Tuesday.
The festival includes a number of events related to football and will see participation by several prominent figures from sports, arts and media, in addition to the participation by more than 300 students representing 30 schools.
