Traffic safety and related issues will be in focus as the International Traffic Safety Conference (ITSC) kicks off in Doha on 26 November.
The conference is being organised by Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Center (QTTSC) at the College of Engineering (CENG) at Qatar University and the Ministry of Interior’s (MoI) National Traffic Safety Committee.
The two-day conference will be attended by representatives of the General Directorate of Traffic, the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Ministry of Culture and Sports, with the support of international partners represented by United Nations Road Safety Committee, International Road Federation and International Association of Traffic and Safety Sciences.
Announcing the agenda of the conference at a press conference in Doha on Wednesday, National Traffic Safety Committee Secretary Brigadier Mohamed Abdullah al Malki said the conference is a testament to how much attention Qatar’s leadership puts on issues related to traffic safety, which is considered a priority in the state.
"The conference will be attended by 30 experts from all over the world with a focus on Qatar’s strategy to reduce deaths and injuries resulting from road accidents by 2020,” Malki said.
The conference will also discuss topics such as traffic safety engineering, driving behaviour, youth and traffic safety, education and traffic safety, road users at risk, legal enforcement, road accident data, post-accident investigations and internal vehicle technology.
The other topics to be discussed will include emergency services, medicine and traffic safety, safety and security, transportation, Intelligent Transportation Systems, traffic flow, road and pavement design, public transport, transport economics and policy, traffic management, logistics transport services, urban planning and land use.
Vice-President for Academic Affairs at QU Omar al Ansari said, "This conference will also provide an opportunity for those concerned with traffic safety, both at the institutional and individual levels, to discuss and share views on the purposeful solutions and how to translate these ideas into strategies that can be utilised in reality.”
The event is being sponsored by Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), Dolphin Energy, Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF), Technolab and Khatib & Alami (K&A) engineering company.
The press conference was attended by Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Abdulmajeed Hamouda, QTTSC Director Faris Tarlochan, Director of Khatib and Alami Alex Hanna, General Manager of Technolab, Mohammed Ahmed Makki and Executive Director of QMMF Sultan al Muraikhi.
