Young Barcelona star Lamine Yamal was allegedly racially abused during his team’s 4-0 win in the Clasico against Real Madrid on Saturday, Spanish media reported, referring to videos published on social media.

The insults happened after Yamal scored Barcelona’s third goal in the 77th minute at Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

Real said in a statement on Sunday that they have opened an investigation into the incident.

"Real Madrid has opened an investigation in order to locate and identify the perpetrators of these deplorable and despicable insults so that the appropriate disciplinary and judicial measures can be taken,” the club said.

"Real Madrid strongly condemns any kind of behaviour involving racism, xenophobia or violence in football and sport, and deeply regrets the insults that a few fans uttered last night in one of the corners of the stadium,” the statement added.

The incident is also expected to be investigated by the league.

Recently, Spanish football authorities have sanctioned such incidents more severely, especially after the racial abuse case involving Madrid forward Vinicius Junior during a game at Valencia in May 2023.

Valencia were handed a partial spectator ban for three matches, among other things. A Spanish court also sentenced three fans to eight months in prison each.
