DOHA: Qatar's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Dr Majed Al Ansari has emphasized the country’s commitment to mediation and peace efforts amid escalating tensions in Gaza and Lebanon.

During a press briefing on Tuesday, Al-Ansari confirmed that dialogues and meetings are actively ongoing in Doha and Cairo, with hopes for a breakthrough. While he noted progress in recent Gaza consultations held in Doha, he stated that details remain confidential as diplomatic discussions continue.

In response to a question from Qatar Tribune about potential accusations of USdouble standards regarding Palestine, Al-Ansari underscored Qatar’s primary focus on confronting the current Israeli aggression. He reiterated that Qatar’s efforts are centered on de-escalation and fostering regional stability.

Regarding international media skepticism about Qatar’s mediation role, Al-Ansari dismissed these doubts, pointing out that such criticism often overlooks Qatar’s significant on-ground initiatives and steadfast efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis.

He stressed firmly that Qatar doesnt judge the negotiation track based on press statements but on positions within negotiation halls, not through media, adding that Qatar remains committed to ending the violence in Gaza and Lebanon, despite the challenging circumstances.

Al-Ansari also provided updates on Qatar’s continued support to Lebanon, with 167 tonnes of aid delivered and more expected by the end of the month. He clarified that it is too early to discuss reconstruction in Gaza but assured that Qatar is dedicated to supporting Gaza once the conflict concludes.

Condemning ongoing Israeli violence in Gaza and Lebanon, Al-Ansari stressed that Qatar advocates for equal application of international war standards, citing parallels to the Ukraine conflict. He also criticized the recent Israeli Knesset decision to restrict the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in occupied territories, calling on the global community to oppose actions that impede the agency’s work.

Al-Ansari strongly condemned the continued Israeli attacks on Palestinians in Gaza and the crimes occurring in Lebanon, urging that the same international standards applied to the Ukraine conflict be enforced in Gaza and Lebanon.

He emphasized that Qatar has consistently stood against all forms of aggression, war crimes, and human rights violations.

Addressing the recent decision by the Israeli Knesset to ban the operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in the occupied territories, Al-Ansari stressed that the international community must not remain silent in the face of Israeli actions, including this ban, and affirmed the need to support UNRWA's role.

He confirmed that Qatar would continue collaborating with the current and future U.S. administrations to advance mediation efforts and work toward a lasting solution.

Al-Ansari concluded by reaffirming Qatar’s readiness to work with the current and upcoming USadministrations, highlighting Doha’s consistent role in supporting a lasting peace solution in the region.
