Frequent accidents in Sealine and Inland Sea or Khor Al Adaid have drawn wide condemnation on social networking sites with the social media users demanding intense patrolling in these areas, especially during the weekends, to ensure safety of people visiting the area.
Some social media users even suggested keeping the Sealine and Khor Al-Adaid areas off limits for motorists by installing barriers and turning them into natural reserves to protect lives.
Dune bashing in Sealine and Khor Al-Adaid is a rage among youngsters.
In case of the deadly collision of two vehicles in Sealine recently, members of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) have put the blame on all the parties involved .
CMC Vice President Hamad bin Lahdan al Mohannadi said there is an urgent need to make it mandatory for owners of bikes and vehicles to wear a helmet and protective clothing to ensure protection of lives and limbs.
He said the recommendations of the CMC should be taken into consideration in all places frequented by young people for camping.
He said there’s a need to have separate places for driving cars and motorcycles so that the terrible incidents like the one mentioned above do not recur.
Mubarak al Hajri, a member of the committee to prevent such incidents at Sealine, said the panel held two meetings recently to define their tasks, priorities and focus on the recommendations that aim to ensure safety.
He said the council’s role involves making appropriate recommendations to the authorities to ensure safety and reduce threats to the lives of young people, especially those aged between 20 and 40 years.
Abdullah Lahdan, a social media user, tweeted that the concentration of vehicles and motorcycles in one place causes chaos.
Another social media user said such incidents at Sealine have been claiming lives of children since the eighties. He said normal cars should be prevented from entering the Sealine area. Only special vehicles for desert use should be provided on rent to guarantee safety of the young people, he added.
Ameer al Nuaimi, another social media user, said, “We have lost so many young people and we do not want to lose more. My suggestion is that special tracks be set up for such adventures on sand dunes.”
Muhsen Fahad al Hajri said while providing patrols, ambulances, helicopters and others in Sealine area will help alleviate the problem, it will not eliminate the challenge, noting that “cars must be prevented from climbing the high sand dunes.”
