The pace at which Qatar is developing its modern infrastructure greatly impressed the four-member delegation from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar, Pakistan that was in Qatar recently.
The delegation was led by UET Vice Chancellor Prof Iftikhar Hussain. He was accompanied by Chairman of Mechatronics Engineering Department Prof Syed Riaz Akbar Shah and faculty members Prof Tahir Khan and Dr Shahzad Anwar.
The delegation members visited Museum of Islamic Art, Souq Waqif, various shopping malls and Msheireb, the heart of Doha. Kifayat Shah, a UET alumnus working as Project Manager at Msheireb properties showed various important features of the project. The visitors were particularly impressed by the awesome skyline in West Bay area.
During their visit to Qatar, UET alumni organised a
reception dinner at Turkish restaurant Hasan Kolcuo?lu at Pearl Qatar.
The delegation felt delighted to see UET alumni in leading positions in Qatar and asked them to work together and advised them to share their experiences with young engineers. The programme was attended by leading professionals and UET alumni including Abid Naeem, Muhammad Suhail, Zakir Toori, Atif Swati, Razaullah, Rashid Khan, Khalifa Khan, Azmat Ullah and Shehzad Khan. CEO and Managing Partner of Sigma Properties Akhundzada Mohammad Faisal attended the event as a special guest.
The event was organised by Manateq Project Manager Arshad Hussain and HoD WorleyParsons Anwar Ali Shah. 
Prof Iftikhar Hussain has 32-year experience of teaching, research, administration and management at the national and international levels. He has over 60 research publications in journals of high repute to his credit. He was awarded the best teaching award by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan in 2010-11. He was the force behind the establishment of the Industrial Engineering Department at UET Peshawar which he served as chairman for 10 years. He has been associated with various statutory bodies of universities such as syndicates and senates. He is the active executive member of Pakistan Engineering Council and member of Board of Directors of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development and Management Company (KPEZDMC). His research areas include advance manufacturing systems, manufacturing processes, expert systems, information systems, quality control, and design and operations analysis of manufacturing system. 
During his two-and-a-half year stint with UET Peshawar as Vice Chancellor, Hussain established a number of international linkages with other leading universities of the world on research collaboration and exchange of faculty and students for short periods. 
UET Peshawar has five campuses, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Bannu, Kohat and Jalozai. Recently, its sixth campus at Mardan has been given the status of a full-fledged university. UET Peshawar is one of the leading universities of the country in engineering, serving the national and international markets. To maintain standard of education, fulfil the requirements of curriculum and accreditation, satisfy needs of stakeholders and industry, UET has started implementation of Outcome Based
Education in all its undergraduate programmes to increase the chances of acceptability
of its graduates throughout the world.
