Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani on Wednesday formally launched four major warehousing parks developed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
With a total area of approximately 2 million square metres, the four warehousing parks developed by four local companies — Gulf Warehousing Company (GWC), Al Asmakh Real Estate Development, Dohatna Logistics Parks and Barwa Real Estate Group — in partnership with Manateq is seen as a major success of PPP model in the country.
Developed under the supervision of the Technical Committee to Stimulate Private Sector Participation in Economic Development Projects, the warehousing parks are located in different parts of Qatar like Bu Sulba, Bu Fesseela, Umm Shaharaine 1 and Umm Shaharaine 2.
Manateq, the leading provider of logistics and industrial zones and warehousing parks in Qatar, announced the successful completion of the construction of the four warehousing parks ahead of schedule during an event at Bu Fesseela warehousing park from where the other three warehousing parks were declared open by the PM.
On the occasion, the PM was detailed on all the projects, their working mechanisms and capacity in addition to the services the logistics parks will provide in compliance with the highest global standards to facilitate the growth of the industrial and services sector.
At the end of the ceremony, the PM honoured the project developers and undertook a tour of Bu Fesseela warehouses and was briefed on the volume and capacity.
First of its kind in Qatar, Manateq had invited developers in the field of warehousing and logistics services to bid for the contract to develop the four warehousing parks project in 2014.
Following the tendering process, contracts for the project were awarded to four developers on a build-operate-and-transfer (BOT) basis. While GWC was awarded contract for Bu Sulba warehousing park, Al Asmakh Real Estate Development got Bu Fesseela.
Ali Bin Ali Group got the contract to develop Dohatna Logistics Parks in Umm Shaharaine 1.
Barwa Real Estate Group was declared winner for Umm Shaharaine 2 warehousing park.
Manateq CEO Fahad Rashid al Kaabi said, “The completion of this landmark project is in line with the government’s thrust to public-private partnerships in major projects and contribution of private sector to the state’s development projects.”
“We are delighted to announce the completion of this first-of-its-kind project that supports Manateq’s vision to promote diversification in investments that add value to Qatar and underlines its mission to create a world-class business environment for local and overseas investors, to help realise the Qatar National Vision 2030,” Kaabi said.
“All these warehousing parks are set to become Qatar’s classic example of world-class logistic parks that reflect our trust in the private sector and its commitment to provide quality warehousing facility with the best of infrastructure, designs, construction quality and connectivity,” he said.
“Manateq will continue to be a catalyst for growth of a robust private sector in Qatar and thereby positively contribute to the economic growth of Qatar,” he said.
The inauguration was attended by a number of ministers, senior officials from the public and private sector and project developers.
