Berlin: Three people have been found dead in an apartment in the Berlin-Marzahn district, the public prosecutor’s office and the Berlin police announced on Sunday in a joint press release.

The homicide division has been investigating since this afternoon, they said. The three people were found lifeless shortly after 2 pm (1300 GMT), according to the press release.

Additional information cannot be disclosed at this time to avoid compromising ongoing investigations, authorities said.

According to information from broadcaster RTL, the crime is said to have taken place several days ago.

Several media outlets had reported that the victims were a mother and her daughters aged 5 and 6, with the partner said to be on the run. The public prosecutor’s office did not confirm this information.

Neighbours laid flowers and lit candles in front of the apartment building in a new development on Sunday evening.

Speaking to a DPA reporter, a local resident described the incident as very frightening. (DPA)
