The anticipation is building as Qatar Foundation’s Al Ghorrah for Literature and Arts approaches, with tickets now available for this exciting cultural event taking place from November 28 to December 2 at Education City.
Sponsored by the Social & Sport Contribution Fund (DAAM), Al Ghorrah is poised to be a dynamic hub for cultural interactions, showcasing the rich tapestry of Arab Islamic civilisations through various forms and expressions of art. The event promises to be an engaging experience for everyone, from local communities to art enthusiasts and families.
Tickets are priced affordably, with daily adult tickets available for QR50 and children’s tickets (ages 4-14 years) for QR35. Specialized workshops can be attended for QR200, while access to the adventure room is set at QR10. "Al Ghorrah is a unique platform for artistic and cultural expression, offering a vibrant space where people can come together to celebrate and connect with the richness of Arab-Islamic heritage,” said Hend M Al Thawadi, Al Ghorrah Project Manager and Engagement & Activation Lead at Qatar Foundation. She emphasised the event’s goal of providing a diverse, engaging, and enriching experience, where attendees can interact, participate, and explore their creative sides.
Taking place at Education City’s Oxygen Park, the five-day event will feature an array of musical performances, including the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra and Mustafa Said, alongside poetry readings and theatrical showcases from schools across the nation.
Highlights of the event include specialised workshops on bookmark-making, miniature painting, and calligraphy, as well as interactive events like storytelling sessions and culinary experiences showcasing flavors from Egypt, Iran and Syria.
Hassan Yousef Al Obaidli, Programmes Manager at DAAM, noted, "This funding agreement marks another step in our commitment to supporting Qatar’s rich cultural landscape, enhancing community development, and promoting intercultural dialogue.” He highlighted the importance of the collaboration in establishing a platform that encourages the exchange of ideas and traditions, ultimately bridging communities and deepening cultural understanding.
A core focus of Al Ghorrah is nurturing a culture of arts and literature in schools and keeping youth connected to their heritage. The event will feature a competition where schools across the country will perform shows inspired by literature, with shortlisted schools auditioning for a chance to participate in Al Ghorrah.
Aisha Al Sultan, Performing Arts Coordinator for Pre-University Education at Qatar Foundation, stated, "Our involvement in Al Ghorrah through the performance of our school choirs reflects our commitment to nurturing the arts within education. Initiatives like this enrich students’ academic journeys and ignite their passion for creativity and self-expression.”
Al Ghorrah is supported by several partners, including Qatar Calendar, the Ministry of Culture, and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. Kholoud Al-Kuwari, Visual Arts and Drama Supervision Consultant at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, emphasised the importance of the partnership in reinforcing cultural and artistic values within the educational community.
Hamad Al Khaja, Acting Head of Events and Festivals Technical Support Section at Qatar Tourism, reiterated Qatar Tourism’s commitment to supporting events that promote cultural exchange and diversity, enhancing Qatar’s event calendar while fostering the creative landscape both locally and regionally.
