DOHA: Minister of Interior and Chairman of the General Referendum Committee HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani has announced that the draft constitutional amendments to the permanent constitution of the State of Qatar have received a popular approval rate of 90.6 percent of the total valid votes.

He said that the referendum saw the participation of 84 percent of citizens eligible to vote, as the percentage of votes in favour of the constitutional amendments reached 89 percent, while the percentage of votes that disagreed reached 9.2 percent, while the percentage of invalid votes reached 1.8 percent.

The following is the text of the statement: In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. God Almighty said: (And say, "Work, and God will see your work, and [so will] His Messenger and the believers." God Almighty has spoken the truth. Based on Decree No. (87) of 2024 AD, calling on citizens to hold a referendum, which comes in accordance with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the country (may God protect and preserve him) to enhance popular participation in public affairs, build the edifice of national unity, and contribute effectively to strengthening consultation, justice, and the rule of law.

The general referendum process on the draft constitutional amendments to the permanent constitution of the State of Qatar was held amidst a great response from citizens, both male and female. The results of the referendum showed the participation of 84 percent of citizens eligible to vote, with the percentage of votes in favour reaching 89 percent, while the percentage of votes in opposition reached 9.2 percent, while the percentage of invalid votes reached 1.8 percent.

With this result, the draft constitutional amendments to the permanent constitution of the State of Qatar obtained a popular acceptance and approval rate of 90.6 percent of the total valid votes.

The General Referendum Committee takes this opportunity to express its sincere congratulations to His Highness the Amir of the country (may God protect and preserve him) on this great national achievement. The Committee also commends the broad popular participation of citizens in the referendum process.
