Sauber have announced the signing of Brazilian talent Gabriel Bortoleto as their second driver from next season onwards, with the Formula One team transforming to an Audi works team in 2026.

Sauber said on Wednesday that Bortoleto would partner veteran German Nico Hülkenberg, who arrives from Haas. The team also officially bid farewell to their current drivers Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu who will leave after three seasons each when the season ends on December 8 Abu Dhabi. Sauber are the only F1 team which has not managed a championship point this term and will hope to turn the tide from 2025 onwards. "We are currently witnessing a generational shift in Formula One, with young drivers immediately making an impact,” Sauber motorsports chairman of the board Gernot Dollner said.

"By signing Gabriel Bortoleto, we have secured one of these top talents. His signing underscores Audi’s long-term strategy and commitment to Formula One.” (dpa)
