In pursuit of empowering Filipino women, the Las Damas de Rizal (LDR) Doha Chapter, in collaboration with Aster Medical Centre, successfully wrapped up its impactful Breast Cancer and Mental Health Awareness Program on November 8, with a free health screening event and a lively Zumba session.
The culmination marked the end of three weekends dedicated to educating and supporting the community on these critical health issues.
The program began on October 26 with a Breast Cancer Awareness and Outreach Program at the Migrants Workers Resource Center (MWRC) Doha, focusing on women in the shelter. This initiative aimed to educate them about breast cancer prevention and early detection.
On November 2, a seminar was held, exclusively for women in various societal roles, to discuss breast cancer risks and mental health challenges, with the support of the Philippine Embassy in Qatar.
The final event on November 8 gathered over 100 participants who registered for free health screenings at Aster Medical Centre. These services included doctor consultations, blood pressure monitoring, body mass index (BMI) assessments, physiotherapy consultations, and blood tests for fasting blood sugar, total cholesterol, urea, and SGPT.
The event emphasised the importance of early detection and regular health check-ups for maintaining overall well-being.
Lady Dr. Anne Binondo, President of Las Damas de Rizal Doha Chapter delivered an inspirational welcome address. She expressed gratitude to Aster Medical Centre and other partners for their support. In recognition of their contributions, plaques and certificates were presented to supporting individuals and organizations.
Sajith Vikraman Pillai, Senior Manager at Aster Medical Centre, also expressed thanks for the event’s success and emphasised the center’s commitment to supporting community health initiatives. Aster Volunteers were on-site to assist with the screenings.
The Filipino Fitness and Health in Qatar (FFHQ) added a fun, energetic touch to the event with a Zumba session, encouraging participants to stay active and healthy. Refreshments were provided by Las Damas de Rizal Doha, with drinks sponsored by Baladna.
The program highlighted the LDR Doha Chapter’s ongoing commitment to improving public health awareness and fostering community spirit. Through its partnership with the Knights of Rizal – Doha Chapter, the organisation continues to promote education and proactive health measures, strengthening community ties and supporting the Philipiine National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal’s legacy of service.
