The Ministry of Culture organised a seminar on Saturday titled ‘Sustainability in the cultural sector, an overview of the experience of supporting cultural diversity in Qatar’, as part of Qatar’s participation in the International Book Fair of Algiers as a guest of honour.

During the seminar, Director of the Department of Culture and Arts at the Ministry of Culture Maryam Yassin Al Hammadi discussed Qatar’s experience in cultural sustainability, affirming that culture garners a significant interest from the wise leadership of Qatar to achieve the Qatar National Vision 2030.

Hammadi added that the Ministry of Culture seizes the opportunity of its participation as a guest of honour to help the public internalise Qatari culture and highlight Qatar’s diligent efforts to prioritise the preservation of both tangible and intangible heritage, as well as how to mobilise material and human resources to achieve this.

Qatar has set a vision to be a pioneering and advanced country for generations to come, especially in the cultural realm, said Hammadi, highlighting the nation’s past, present, and future, while outlining the Qatari policies and plans to achieve this objective.

She emphasised that the ministry intends to deepen cultural relationship between Qatar and Algeria through imparting the Qatari culture to the people of Algeria via direct interaction with the public.

For her part, cultural studies researcher at the Culture and Arts Department of the Ministry of Culture Al Maha Al Ali said that her lecture focused on the notion of culture and cultural diversity of Qatar, along with Qatar’s efforts to reinforce this cooperation, the effective role Qatar plays in UNESCO, the ministry’s role in consolidating the culture through cultural weeks and cultural diversity events of a wide diversity of communities in Qatar.
