DOHA: Under the slogan 'Qatar Mathematics Day', and as a continuation of the series of events of the Arab Mathematics Olympiad in its fourth edition 2024, which the State of Qatar is hosting for the first time, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, in partnership with Qatar University, organised an open day event that was held in the Ministry building with the aim of professional development and exchange of experiences.
The event featured a showcase of the latest technologies and modern methods in the field of educational research in mathematics, and distinguished participations by speakers and lecturers from various higher education institutions in the State of Qatar, including Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Community College, and Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar.
The open day activities also included two programs: one for team leaders and assistants, and the other for participating students, in addition to 12 scientific lectures on mathematics research, nine specialized training workshops presented by a group of faculty members at Qatar University and mathematics teachers in public schools, and scientific dialogue sessions moderated by mathematicians nominated by ALECSO, and mathematics professors from Qatar University and Community College, in addition to holding a STEM projects exhibition for students from public and private schools.
The open day activities also included a group of scientific lectures and training workshops presented by a group of Arab mathematicians from outside the State of Qatar, such as Professor Nader Masmoudi from the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University in Abu Dhabi, Professor Mohamed Majdoub, a mathematician who won the Tunisian Presidency Award for Excellence in Mathematics in 1995, and Dr. Uday Nur Cahyono from the University of Negeri Semarang (UNNES) in Indonesia, who participated with a research paper on “Learning Mathematics Around Us and in the Digital Age: From Real-World Pathways to Virtual Adventures.”
The lectures and workshops were also attended by Dr. Tamadhar Al-Asiri Al-Maadheed, Dr. Muhammad bin Al-Hajj Rahoma, Dr. Abdul Wahid Hamdi, and Dr. Hussam Kasti, from Qatar University, and Dr. Muhammad Ayyad Al-Ayari from the Community College in the State of Qatar.
On this occasion, Fatima Al Rashid, Assistant Director of Educational Guidance and General Coordinator of the Olympiad Committees, stated that the activities of the open day, which was held within the activities of the Fourth Arab Mathematics Olympiad under the slogan “Qatar Mathematics Day” and with the participation of talented Arab students in mathematics, aim to develop the spirit of creativity and confidence in these students through participation in a distinctive scientific event that qualifies them to advance their scientific capabilities.
It is worth noting that the activities of the Open Day at the Arab Mathematical Olympiad provide an opportunity for mathematics specialists, academics, teachers and Arab students to interact and communicate about the latest developments in mathematics and its applied research.
