The traditional and glamourous Monaco Grand Prix is to remain on the Formula One calendar until 2031 after a six-year extension from 2025 was agreed with the Automobile Club of Monaco (ACM), Formula 1 said on Thursday.

The Monaco GP was part of the first F1 season in 1950 and has been present since 1955, becoming one of the most famous sporting events in the world.

F1 legends such as Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher and Niki Lauda have left their mark with wins in the narrow street circuit. This year, Monaco-born Charles Leclerc joined the group with an emotional race at his home race.

"I’m delighted that Formula 1 will continue to race in Monaco until 2031,” F1 president Stefano Domenicali said.

"The streets of Monte Carlo are unique and a famous part of Formula 1, and the Monaco Grand Prix remains a race that all drivers dream of winning.”

There had been previously speculation that Monaco could be removed for the F1 calendar or just make sporadically appearances.

Despite the glamour, races in the Principality haven’t been very exciting since overtaking is very difficult - especially with the current bigger F1 cars.

Next season, the Monaco GP is to take place on May 25, while from 2026 the race is to be contested on the first full weekend of June.
