The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) on Thursday concluded the 4th Arab Mathematics Olympiad 2024, which was organised in partnership with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) and the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, where Qatari students won eight medals, including one gold, five silver, and two bronze.

Minister of Education and Higher Education HE Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater and Director-General of ALECSO Mohamed Ould Amar honoured the students who won gold medals, in addition to three teams that achieved the best performance from Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, and Algeria.

In her closing speech, the minister expressed her thanks and appreciation to Minister of Social Development and Family and former Minister of Education and Higher Education HE Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi for her role in preparing and making the 4th edition of the Arab Mathematics Olympiad a success, and to all those involved in its success, stressing that everyone will serve the nation from their various positions.

Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs at the MoEHE Maha Zayed Al Ruwaili and Director of the Department of Education at ALECSO Rami Iskander honoured the students who won bronze and silver medals and presented honorary certificates to students who came close to winning bronze.

In his speech at the beginning of the closing ceremony, Secretary-General of the Qatar National Committee for Education, Culture, and Science Ali Abdulrazzaq Al Marafi highlighted the excellence and giving of the 4th Arab Mathematics Olympiad among a distinguished elite of Arab students who excelled in this vital scientific field, which contributed to strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and cooperation, and provided an opportunity for participants to exchange ideas and experiences in a rich scientific and cultural framework.

He noted that the students proved through the competition that ambition and knowledge are the basis of success and that the Arab future is built by the hands of students with their scientific passion and their insistence on excellence.

He added that the comprehensive presence of Arab countries in the Olympiad is a reflection of joint Arab cooperation and support for establishing a scientific identity in the region.

For his part, Iskander praised Qatar’s organisation of the 4th Arab Mathematics Olympiad with international standards that distinguished this edition from the previous ones, whether in terms of the number of participating countries with the presence of delegations from 22 Arab countries or in terms of scientific and cultural activities that varied between workshops, lectures, and presentations, in addition to the value of the names with expertise that participated in it from Arab and international universities and educational institutions.

He added that the 4th edition of the Olympiad was a good opportunity to develop the spirit of scientific competition among around 83 male and female students from the elite of distinguished mathematics in the Arab world, in addition to strengthening scientific and friendly ties between specialists in this science.
