AmsterdamcTypeface:> The coalition parties of the Dutch government have averted a split and resolved their dispute over allegedly racist remarks made by government ministers.
After hours of crisis talks in The Hague, Prime Minister Dick Schoof said late on Friday that the coalition intended to continue governing together. “There was and is no racism in the government,” he said. The political uncertainty was triggered by the resignation of Dutch State Secretary Nora Achahbar earlier on Friday. Achahbar’s resignation was in protest against reports that government ministers had accused Muslim migrants of anti-Semitism and held them responsible for the attacks on Israeli football fans in the Dutch capital Amsterdam last week, Dutch media reported.
