BIRLA Public School (BPS) organised a talent show and inaugurated its literary club ‘The Wings of Literature’ recently.
Club members, including students from Grades VI to X, demonstrated their literary skills during the event held at Basant Kumar Birla Auditorium. The performances were also conceived and created by the students themselves. Teachers, headmistress, heads of various departments were among the
distinguished attendees.
The welcome speech was delivered by Bhoomi Naidu of IX L. It was followed by a presentation of the famous Court Scene from ‘Merchant of Venice’ by the members of the eighth grade.
The secretary of the secondary school wing of the club, Yuvikhaa Reddy of Class 10 F, addressed the assembly highlighting the role of literature in building a personality.
A choral recitation was performed by the VI graders based on the sonnet Seven Ages by William Shakespeare. An interactive programme, ‘Know your language’ was conducted by the seventh graders involving every member of the audience. Winners were honoured with prizes.
It was followed by a ‘Puppet Show ’on the negative impact of cellphone addiction presented by the VI graders. Shaymanthi Bhowmik of Class 9 L brought alive the song ‘Hello’ by Adele.
Furthermore, a play titled ‘Twist of Tales’ written and directed by the students of Grades 9 and 10 evoked appreciation of all those present. The play was a compilation of famous sequences from various literary works including Harry Potter, Romeo and Juliet, Pride and Prejudice, culminating with the protagonist from the novel ‘Blaire’. Published in Wattpad, the play was written by Yuvikhaa Reddy.
It was followed by a humorous speech on ‘Importance of English by Sia Prasad and Fatma Sayed of Class 10 D. Hannah Spurgeon of VIII K was awarded a book on ‘Better Speaking Skills’ for providing the iconic title,which was selected as the name of the club- Wings of Literature.
Words of felicitations were delivered by Mrs Lakshmi Devi, head of the English department, encouraging the students to constantly develop reading standards and exploit their creative talents. Words of gratitude were expressed by FaizahNazreen of class 9 D and Lea Mathews of 7 N. The Master of Ceremonies, Subhasini of IX concluded the programme.
