In commemoration of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims and to emphasise the critical importance of road safety, the General Directorate of Traffic has inaugurated a comprehensive awareness exhibition at its headquarters in Madinah Khalifa. The event aims to enhance understanding of road safety practices and foster a culture of responsibility among road users. Attended by a diverse audience—including traffic officers, students from various schools, parents and safety experts—the exhibition serves as a powerful reminder of our shared duty to ensure safer roads for all.
The exhibition saw participation from the General Directorate of Civil Defence, the Medical Services Department at the Ministry of Interior, the Juvenile Police Department, Hamad Trauma Centre, ambulance services, Fahes Company, and many other participants.
Inclusive experience
Dr Osama Ali, a school group leader and safety advocate, expressed his admiration for the initiative. "Bringing students, especially those from diverse backgrounds, to witness first-hand the real-life impact of traffic safety measures and emergency responses is invaluable. It engages them beyond classroom theories and brings the lessons of safety and responsibility to life,” he said. The Civil Defence team demonstrated emergency procedures and proper fire response in vehicles, while the Medical Services Department shared crucial first-aid techniques applicable during road accidents.
Life-saving lessons
Among the highlights of the exhibition was an interactive corner where visitors could learn about the mandatory safety features vehicles should be equipped with, and observe practical demonstrations of vehicle inspections carried out by Fahes Company.
Mona Mohammad Ali, a mother who attended the event with her autistic son, described the experience as both enlightening and comforting. "I often worry about how my child would react or cope in an emergency situation. Being here has reassured me,” Mona said. "The way the organisers have made this space inclusive and accessible for children with special needs is commendable. My son was captivated by the hands-on activities, and I learned important safety protocols that I didn’t know before.”
The exhibition also focused on spreading awareness about the responsibilities of every road user. Educational panels illustrated how simple actions—such as fastening seatbelts, observing speed limits, and avoiding distractions—can drastically reduce road incidents. Karwa Academy contributed by hosting sessions that provided practical advice for young drivers, reinforcing the importance of defensive driving and adherence to traffic laws.
Shared stories and
messages of hope
What truly set the event apart were the stories shared by participants, personal reflections on loss and recovery, and messages of hope for a safer future.
Dr Osama Ali encouraged the students to see themselves as ambassadors of road safety within their communities. "Each of you has the power to make a difference,” he said, addressing the students. "It’s not just about learning rules; it’s about applying them in ways that protect your life and the lives of others.”
Mona’s son, who enthusiastically participated in a mini-first-aid workshop, was an example of how inclusive initiatives can leave lasting impacts on families. "This event goes beyond just raising awareness; it brings people together, fostering a community where we look out for each other,” Mona added with a smile.
