DOHA: The Shura Council has held its regular weekly session at the 'Tamim bin Hamad Hall' at the Council's headquarters, chaired by Speaker of the Council HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim.

At the beginning of the session, the Council praised the results of the working visit made by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to the sisterly Republic of Turkey on November 14, where His Highness and Turkish President HE Recep Tayyip Erdogan chaired the tenth session of the Qatari-Turkish Supreme Strategic Committee.

The Council welcomed the visit’s outcome, which included the signing of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two brotherly countries in various fields, which contributes to strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.

The Council pointed out that this visit came within the framework of the State of Qatar's firm approach, led by His Highness the Amir of the country, to strengthen strategic partnerships with brotherly and friendly countries, in a way that serves the interests of the peoples and enhances the stability and prosperity of the region, noting that it will open new horizons for coordination on regional and international issues of common interest.

Then, Secretary-General of the Shura Council HENayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoudread the agenda of the session, and the minutes of the previous session were approved.

During the session, the Council reviewed a draft law regulating travel and air freight offices, which was referred to it by the esteemed government, and decided to refer it to the Health, Public Services and Environment Affairs Committee to study it and submit its report on it to it.

The Council also approved a draft law amending some provisions of Law No. (15) of 2011 on combating human trafficking, after reviewing the report of the Internal and External Affairs Committee on it, and discussing the provisions of the draft law by the members.

The Council also reviewed, in its session, a number of reports on the participation of its delegations in a number of regional and international parliamentary events.

At the end of the session, Al Ghaniminformed the members of the Council about his participation at the head of the Council’s delegation in the 18th meeting of the heads of the Shura, Representatives, National and National Councils of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, which was hosted by the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, last week.

Heindicated that the attendees congratulated the State of Qatar on the success of the general referendum on the constitutional amendments of 2024 to the permanent constitution of the State of Qatar.

He explained that the meeting focused on strengthening the unity of the Gulf ranks and enhancing joint Gulf parliamentary work, in a way that serves the interests of the GCC countries and meets the aspirations of their citizens.

He referred to the reception of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, for the heads of the Gulf legislative councils, indicating that the UAE Vice President praised during the meeting the success of the general referendum on the constitutional amendments, and ways to enhance joint Gulf cooperation were also reviewed, in a way that serves the interests of the Council countries and their peoples.
