The Data Protection Office (DPO) of Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) has achieved full membership in the prestigious Global Privacy Assembly (GPA), a global network of over 130 data protection authorities. The announcement was made at the 46th GPA General Assembly held in Jersey, Channel Islands, marking a significant milestone for QFC in the realm of data privacy.

The full membership acknowledges the DPO’s efforts in implementing the QFC Data Protection Regulations and Rule 2021, which set comprehensive standards for processing personal data. These regulations emphasize transparency, robust data protection measures, and alignment with international best practices, ensuring the safeguarding of individuals’ data rights and legitimate interests.

Having served as an observer in the GPA since 2021, the QFC DPO now takes its place among global leaders in data protection. This development strengthens Qatar’s standing in the global data privacy landscape while advancing the DPO’s mission to foster high standards of privacy within the QFC’s financial and business ecosystem.

Expressing pride in the achievement, QFC Data Protection Office Commissioner Daniel Dominic Patterson said, "Achieving full membership in the Global Privacy Assembly is a testament to our team’s dedication and the robust data protection framework at QFC. It enhances our role in safeguarding privacy and elevates Qatar’s position in global data protection. We look forward to collaborating with global and local partners to shape the future of data privacy.”

The GPA, established in 1979, serves as a platform for fostering international cooperation and evolving privacy laws to meet technological and societal advancements. Through its new membership, QFC DPO aims to contribute actively to these global discussions and initiatives.
