DOHA: A FIFA delegation concluded a successful week-long visit to the State of Qatar to assess the readiness of Stadium 974 and Lusail Stadium, which will host the FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2024, as well as training fields and accommodation, in conjunction with the approaching hosting of the football event, which will be held from Dec 11-18.
The FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2024 will feature the winning clubs from six continents competing for three titles, with one of them climbing the podium and being named the best club in the world.
The schedule of matches for the Intercontinental Cup for Clubs includes the Derby of the Americas on Dec. 11, the Challenge Cup on Dec. 14, and the final match of the tournament on Dec. 18.
The 44,000-capacity Stadium 974 is set to host two matches in the FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2024, before the final, which will see a decisive clash for the title at Lusail Stadium, coinciding with the celebration of the second anniversary of hosting the historic final of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
For his part, Head of Youth Tournaments at FIFA Roberto Grassi emphasized that the State of Qatar has world-class sports facilities and extensive experience not only in organizing and hosting football tournaments but also includes several other sports.
He added that the State of Qatar has been able to build high-level capabilities and rich expertise in organizing major sporting events, including the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which has achieved impressive success on all levels. The sustainable legacy of the global tournament is still apparent and seen in modern stadiums built according to the highest international standards and specifications.
For his part, Stadium 974 Venue Manager for the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Eng. Jassim Al Obaidly said that Stadium 974 was designed according to the highest international standards that comply with FIFA's specifications, similar to all World Cup stadiums that witnessed the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
He added that Stadium 974 will provide fans with an exceptional experience during the upcoming tournament, with its unique design inspired by the ancient maritime heritage of Doha, and its strategic location as it is the first stadium that visitors see when they come to the Qatari capital.
The final match will be held at the 89,000-capacity Lusail World Cup Stadium, which is famous among football fans around the world after hosting the best final ever in the history of the World Cup.
Lusail Stadium Venue Manager for the LOC Eng. Ali Al Dosari said that Lusail Stadium is a prestigious sports edifice, and holds a special place among fans in the State of Qatar, the region, and worldwide, and will remain present in the history of the World Cup tournaments.
He added that Lusail Stadium is famous for hosting a number of matches during the Qatar 2022 World Cup, which culminated in a dazzling final that attracted the attention of millions around the world and will remain etched in the memory. The iconic stadium also witnessed a number of matches in the Qatar 2023 Asian Cup, making it the ideal choice to host the final of the FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2024, where Qatar will create wonderful new memories that will last in the imagination of fans in Qatar and around the world.
