BAKU: Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) HE Mariam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah has met with Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sabina Aliyeva, Member of the Azerbaijani Parliament and Chairman of the Executive Board of the Social Research Center Zahid Uruj, and President of the Azerbaijan Institute of Democracy and Human Rights DrAhmed Shahidov, on the sidelines of the NHRC's participation in the (29) session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference, held in Baku.
In her meeting with Sabina, Al Attiyah discussed aspects of cooperation between the Committee and the Commission with regard to joint work, especially in awareness programs and events in the field of disseminating, promoting and protecting human rights in the Qatari and Azerbaijani societies.
This isin addition to coordinating the preparation of a memorandum of understanding that frames cooperation between the two parties, including the exchange of expertise, experiences and best practices, in order to achieve the objectives of the Committee and the Commission and work to develop and build the members of both parties, especially with regard to preparing reports and dealing with digital systems and keeping pace with their developments and changes that occur in them.
During the meeting with Oruj, Al Attiyah stressed the importance of social studies, especially studies related to the family, which is the basic nucleus of societies, noting that the cohesion of the family means cohesive and interconnected societies that enjoy all their basic rights.
Al Attiyah called for the importance of raising capacities in terms of preparing analytical studies to read the movement of development of societies and to know the challenges and obstacles and ways to overcome them. In this context, she stressed the readiness of the National Human Rights Committee in the State of Qatar to cooperate with the Social Research Center in Azerbaijan in holding training courses for employees of both parties in the field of preparing analytical studies.
During her meeting with Shahidov, Al Attiyah stressed the need to work on implementing the memorandum of understanding signed between the National Human Rights Committee and the Azerbaijan Institute for Democracy and Human Rights, which stipulates the exchange of experiences and building a partnership on mechanisms for receiving, processing and dealing with petitions, exchanging best practices regarding the mechanisms by which the two parties cooperate with governmental and non-governmental institutions, and learning about the efforts of the Institute in spreading the culture of human rights in society.
Al Attiyah stressed that the National Human Rights Committee, through its adoption and launch of its strategic plan 2024-2030, has approved executive activities related to international and regional cooperation through which it can implement the provisions of the memorandum of understanding concluded between the two sides using scientific, systematic methods that can be implemented according to previously prepared programs related to international and regional cooperation.
