The action in the National Shooting and Archery Team Cup began with the training in skeet and pistol events at the Losail Ranges on Wednesday.
The Qatar Shooting and Archery Association (QSAA) announced formation of the administrative and technical committees of the event. Majid al Naimi, the QSAA Secretary-General, has been appointed the Chairman of the Organising Committee, while Ibrahim al Mohannadi is the Tournament Director and Ahmed al Jaidah heads the Judges Committee.
The first event of the year is part of the preparations of the national shooters and archers for the upcoming international competitions, including the qualifiers for the 2020 Olympic Games.
Naimi said, “The pre-event training for skeet and pistol shooters marked the start of the new championship in 2019. Participants and the association are ready for the competition in the right earnest and we expect tight contests in almost all the events.
“The QSAA President Ali Mohammed al Kuwari chaired various meetings of the organising committee to ensure that everything is in place for the first tournament of the year. The performance of all the contestants would be followed keenly as this year has lots of competitions as the qualifiers for the Tokyo Olympics. All the shooters and archers have worked hard and we’re likely to witness high-level battle for the glory. The association aims to bag maximum possible qualifying spots,” added Naimi.
Tournament Director Ibrahim al Mohannadi said, “The QSAA wishes to provide equal opportunities to all the competitors and hopes that these competitions will make the contestants not only confident but help them put in their best. The National Shooting and Archery Team Cup will also enable all the participants to assess themselves so that they can improve in the areas in which they are feeling to be lacking.”
On Friday, the first day of the Skeet qualifying for men and women will be held. Also on the schedule is the 25m Pistol Precision Stage for women.
The Team Cup will conclude on January 12 with Trap finals (men and women), 25m Pistol Stage 2 (men) and 50m Rifle 3 Positions (men and women).
