The West Asian Football Federation Foundation (WAFF Foundation) and Generation Amazing Foundation (GA) have announced a new phase of their partnership, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in Aqaba, Jordan on November 23. This milestone highlights the commitment of both foundations to supporting marginalised and refugee communities in the West Asian region through the transformative power of sport.
The signing ceremony, attended by Khalil Al Salem, general secretary of WAFF Foundation, and Nasser Al-Khori, executive director of GA, paves the way for sustainable, long-lasting social development across West Asia. At the heart of this effort, two Generation Amazing Community Clubs (GACCs) are being established in underserved areas of Jordan – Aqaba and Baqaa – where sport will be used to address challenges faced by young people in employment, education and psychosocial well-being. Together, the GACCs aim to positively impact over 4,000 youth.
At the signing, Khalil Al Salem welcomed the new collaboration, stating: “At WAFF Foundation, we deeply recognize the vital role football plays as a catalyst for development. This understanding drives us to broaden our collaborative horizons, which is why we’re thrilled to join hands with Generation Amazing Foundation—a partner dedicated to meaningful and impactful work with a mission of real substance. Through this agreement, we aspire to create a lasting, sustainable impact that resonates with the values we champion in developmental and social endeavours. This partnership represents an important step in our journey toward a comprehensive and enduring strategy for social responsibility, perfectly aligned with our core objectives.”
In response, Nasser Al-Khori remarked: “We are thrilled to deepen our partnership with WAFF Foundation, building on the pitches GA introduced over a decade ago in Aqaba and Baqaa, Jordan—a country that hosts many refugees and displaced people. These pitches have already impacted thousands of lives, and by elevating them into fully developed GACCs, we are amplifying our reach. Through sport, we are committed to empowering more young people, enhancing well-being, resilience, and leadership across the region.”
On the day of the signing, WAFF Foundation and GA Foundation officially launched the GACC in Aqaba. Hosted at the Al Shamiya field, the event brought together representatives from various community organisations and included traditional games and activities with active participation from local communities in Aqaba.
Following the launch, GA Master Coach Hamad Abdulaziz has been delivering a four-day training session to 30 coaches from Aqaba and Baqaa on GA’s Sport for Development modules, including the Psychosocial Support and Mental Wellbeing module, which uses sport to foster positive behaviours and build resilience among young people.
The comprehensive training model combines practical, hands-on learning with a focus on social impact, enabling trainees to go on to effectively plan, design, and deliver football-based sessions that address social issues in their communities.
“It’s an honour to work with coaches who are dedicated to making a difference in their communities. This training goes beyond teaching sport; it’s about building resilience, developing life skills, and inspiring young people to overcome challenges, so that they may go on to identify and tackle obstacles for the betterment of their communities,” said Master Coach Hamad.
“I’m excited to see the impact these coaches will create as they bring the Generation Amazing Sport for Development model to the community in Aqaba and Baqaa.”
