ViennacTypeface:> Austria has once again put itself forward as a possible venue for peace negotiations to end Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
Chancellor Karl Nehammer said on Tuesday that he had issued an invitation to US President-Elect Donald Trump during a telephone conversation. He had also made reference to the country’s long tradition of facilitating international dialogue, the chancellor said. During the conversation, Trump, who is due to be sworn in for a second term on January 20, was interested in his impressions of his personal encounter with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to Nehammer.
The Austrian chancellor made a brief visit to Moscow and Kiev a few weeks after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine to explore diplomatic solutions. The EU member state is not a member of the Western defence alliance NATO. (DPA)
