RIYADH: The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has inaugurated the Riyadh Metro Project, one of the major public transport projects in the Kingdom.
At a cost of nearly $22.5 billion, the giant project consists of a massive network that includes 6 automated metro lines with a length of 176 km including 60 km underground, as well as 85 stations, including four main stations, and 183 trains set across 6 lines.
All six lines of the Riyadh Metro will be powered entirely by renewable energy sources, ensuring an environmentally friendly transit option for the city.
The train and bus network will be capable of serving 1.7 million passengers daily during the initial operation phase. The Riyadh Metro project links a connecting bus service to densely populated areas. It also links transport hubs, universities, government buildings, commercial centres, and hospitals. (QNA)
