A new criminal trial of the imprisoned war critic Alexei Gorinov began in the Russian city of Vladimir on Wednesday.

The 63-year-old lawmaker faces charges of justifying terrorism, two years after being jailed for criticizing the war in Ukraine.

Opposition leader Ilya Yashin published a photo on his Telegram channel showing Gorinov in the courtroom holding up a sign that read: "Enough killing. Let’s stop the war”.

Yashin wrote that he was proud of Gorinov’s unyielding pacifist stance. Gorinov was one of the first people in Russia to be sentenced to a prison term without probation for allegedly discrediting the Russian army. (DPA)
