Qatar Foundation’s Al Ghorrah for Literature and Arts is here – offering everyone the chance to experience a unique five-day cultural and creative experience.
The event, taking place at Education City from today, November 28, to December 2, is celebrating the cultural heritage and arts of Arab Islamic civilizations in many forms, with the community of Qatar being invited to experience everything it has to offer.
Daily tickets for adults cost QR50, while tickets for children (aged 4-14) are priced at QR35. Specialized workshop tickets are QR200 and access to the adventure room is QR10. All tickets can be purchased at https://educationcity.qa/al-ghorrah where you can also find a full Al Ghorrah schedule.
Ahead of the event, which runs from 5-10pm each day, here are five Al Ghorrah elements not to be missed over the coming days:
Al Feel Ya Malik Al Zaman, a play written by the renowned playwright Saadallah Wannous, which will be performed on the opening two nights of Al Ghorrah under the creative direction and production of Maher Salibi. Its stellar cast includes Jamal Sulieman. Performances are from 7-8pm on 28 and 29 November at Al Ghorrah’s Main Theatre.
Singer-songwriter Hamza Namira, who will perform on the closing night of Al Ghorrah on 2 December, at the Main Theater, from 9-10pm.
Al Ghorrah’s Talent Stage, where a vibrant daily parade will bring 1001 Nights to life by showcasing six diverse cultures from the legendary tales; a range of artists will share their talents each evening; and audiences will be entertained by cultural performances, storytelling, traditional songs, and enlightening lectures.
The Multicultural Zone, featuring activities ranging from bookmark, puppet, and map making, treasure chest decorating, and lamp colouring for children, to Arabic calligraphy, leather crafting techniques, Palestinian tatreez, creating natural inks and Islamic geometric patterns, and scroll making.
Activities in Multaqa (Education City Student Centre), including beginners’ and advanced calligraphy workshops, the opportunity to explore floral motifs from Islamic art and historical geometric patterns, and Islamic miniature painting workshops.
And alongside all this and more, visitors can enjoy an immersive culinary experience reflecting the flavours, history, and cultures of stories from ‘1001 Nights’, connect and interact in the Qatari-Moroccan Majlis, explore the Generations Speaking Palestine exhibition – and test their puzzle-solving skills in an Escape Room inspired by ‘1001 Nights’.
