CAIRO: The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Municipality, has participated in the first joint Arab forum on food safety and sanitary and phytosanitary measures within the framework of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area, which kicked off on Tuesday and continued for three days in Cairo.
The General Secretariat of the Arab League organized this forum in cooperation and coordination with the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development, as part of responding to the current challenges facing food safety in the Arab region, with the aim of enhancing economic integration between Arab countries within the framework of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area in the field of food safety and sanitary and phytosanitary measures.
The State of Qatar's participation in the forum aims to enhance Arab economic integration that combines food safety and phytosanitary measures, without conflicting with the movement of international trade.
In this regard, the conference addressed achieving integration between the countries of the region with regard to food safety and phytosanitary measures, while at the same time facilitating trade procedures between the countries of the region and within the framework of international trade.
The forum also provided an opportunity to exchange experiences and expertise from agricultural producing and exporting countries.
The forum's work program included holding the 17th meeting of the Arab Specialized Team for Food Safety, as well as a round table between representatives of the Arab Specialized Team for Food Safety within the framework of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area and representatives of specialized United Nations organizations and relevant Arab organizations to discuss future cooperation opportunities between the two sides with regard to food safety.
