The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Saturday launched its annual vaccination campaign against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (Tdap), focusing on school students of class 10.
The campaign is being implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and the Primary Health Care Corporation.
In the first phase of the campaign, private schools students will receive vaccination from January 13 (Sunday) to February 24. Public school students will receive vaccination from February 17 to 26.
The ministry organised a workshop for nurses, providing them with the necessary training that would guarantee the success of the campaign.
The ministry will organise a second workshop targeting government school nurses on January 30.
Dr Suha al Bayat, head of Immunisation Department at the Ministry of Public Health, said Qatar does not suffer from the three diseases targeted by the campaign because of the high level of vaccination coverage.
She said the campaign is implemented annually to enhance the immunity of students, adding that the vaccine is taken every 10 years as a booster.
She explained the importance of nurses in raising awareness and helping to convince students and their parents about the benefit of the vaccine to promote and protect students’ health.
