In a major step towards achieving self-sufficiency in livestock, Qatar’s premier investor in the food production Hassad signed a strategic sponsorship agreement with Qatar Livestock Society (Anaam) in Doha on Sunday.
The official launch of Anaam, which was founded in 2018 by a ministerial decision under the Associations & Private Institutions Department at Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour & Social Affairs (MADLSA), coincided with the agreement signing ceremony.
Hassad Food Business Relations Director Mubarak Rashid al Sahouti and Anaam Chairman Hamad Faleh al Shahwani signed the sponsorship agreement.
Under the agreement, Hassad will provide financial and technical support to Anaam in raising livestock and grazing management.
A cultural association, Anaam’s main objective is to work as a link between livestock owners and concerned government organisations and institutions to develop the wider livestock sector in Qatar.
Speaking on the occasion, Hassad Chief Executive Officer Mohamed bin Badr al Sadah said, “Supporting the country in achieving food security is always at the forefront of Hassad’s strategic objectives. The main aim to sponsor Anaam is to support productive livestock owners, and we believe in the important role the association will play locally.”
All projects of Anaam will be sponsored by Hassad, he said adding the company will also part with its expertise to support the society in educating livestock owners across the country.
Talking to Qatar Tribune on the sidelines of the event, Sahouti said that there are around 17,000 livestock farmers in Qatar and under the agreement signed today Hassad will reach and support all such farmers through Anaam’s programmes and projects.
“Currently there is a big gap between supply and demand of livestock in the country. We import more than what is available locally. The formal launch of Anaam and Hassad’s support to it is big leap towards narrowing this gap. We are sure that the country will be self-sufficient in this important food segment in the years to come,” Sahouti said.
Speaking on the occasion, Shahwani said, “Being a pioneer in the food investment field, Hassad is always striving to support the productive livestock owners as well as the private sector, and this sponsorship certainly complements those efforts.”
“We aim to support in raising the production efficiency of the livestock sector, by entering into joint programmes with both Halal owners and a number of institutions, to contribute in achieving food security,” Shahwani said.
MADLSA Associations & Private Institutions Director Naji Abd Rabu al Ajei, who was also present on the occasion, said, “Anaam is a new association, which was recently declared in accordance with the law of local associations and private institutions. We thank Hassad for their support and for believing in the association’s mission.”
Elaborating the main objectives of the society, Anaam Board Member Mohammed Yaaqob Alkaabi said, “Our core duties are to study the market needs and assess the challenges, as well as find effective solutions in coordination with the entities and institutions.
“Conduct workshops, and provide consultation to the livestock owners, in order to raise the production efficiency across the livestock sector.
“Build a unified database for all local livestock owners, to facilitate the communications among them. Encourage and support new and innovative initiatives, which contribute to achieving food security, and spread awareness across livestock owners on the importance of the environment, in line with Qatar’s 2030 vision.”
