Real Madrid bounced back from their Champions League defeat to Liverpool with a 2-0 win against Getafe as Kylian Mbappe responded to criticism of his Anfield display by scoring.
Mbappe claimed his 10th goal of the season with a beauty from outside the box at the Bernabeu.
Mbappe should have added to his tally of eight league goals when sent clear and the Frenchman dribbled around Soria, but the angle was against him when he finally got his shot away.
Jude Bellingham had earlier put Real ahead after taking over spot-kick duty from Mbappe following the France striker’s failed attempt against Liverpool.
Real’s third straight league win took them within a point of leaders Barcelona, who suffered a shock 2-1 home defeat to Las Palmas on Saturday. Real have a game in hand on their bitter rivals.
Carlo Ancelotti made four changes from the side beaten at Anfield on Wednesday with Ferland Mendy, Eduardo Camavinga, Luka Modric and Arda Guler dropping out.
Getafe’s best chance came when Christantus Uche span away from Rudiger and fired a fierce effort against the post, with Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois beaten.
Lucas Vasquez - who took the captain’s armband - Fran Garcia, Dani Ceballos and Rodrygo were recalled to the starting line-up.
