Tamil Literary Club of Birla Public School celebrated its Pongal Festival and Thiruvalluvar Day on the school’s main campus on Monday.
Principal A P Sharma, Senior Vice-Principal Shirly Rappai, Vice-Principal Radhika Rajesh Rele, Vice-Principal Rajesh Pillai, Vice-Principal Bhavna, Administrative Manager Joseph K, Headmistress Divya Mary Vincent and Head of Tamil department Krishnamoorthy were the special guests.
The programme started with lighting the lamp by the dignitaries of Birla Public School, followed by ‘Tamil Thaai Vaazlthu’, the symbolic prayer song of Tamil Nadu. It was followed by the welcome speech by Akilesh of class 5 and a motivational speech by Tamilarasan K of class 8.
To enrich the occasion, various cultural events depicting the rich culture of Tamil Nadu was staged. The comperers for the event were Aparna and Harshini from class 8.
Saroj kumar and Subhashini of class 9 announced the winners of various competitions held on the occasion and distributed certificates to the winners.
The programme came to an end with the vote of thanks by Tasneem of class 8.
The harvest festival of Pongal and Tamil Day was celebrated in Primary 1 also. In a special assembly, the children narrated the Thirukural quotes and spoke on the importance of Pongal. The programme concluded with a wonderful performance of Tamil folk dance by the little stars of the Primary section.
