LONDON: In a landmark announcement during the State Visit of His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to the United Kingdom, the State of Qatar and the United Kingdom have pledged to double their joint humanitarian and development funding to $100 million.
This significant increase underscores the deepening partnership between the two nations and their shared commitment to addressing the world's most pressing challenges.
Building on a history of successful collaboration, the enhanced funding will support a range of initiatives aimed at tackling humanitarian crises, promoting sustainable development, and addressing the root causes of irregular migration and displacement. Joint efforts will focus on conflict resolution, education, food security, health, and climate resilience in a number of countries of mutual interest.Through existing joint funding mechanisms, Qatar and the UK have already delivered significant results, including delivering 17 tonnes of aid to Gaza, supporting children in Northwest Syria to access education, assisting more than 100 vulnerable communities in Somalia recover from conflict, environmental crises and economic instability.
The new funding commitment expands this critical work and will contribute to additional projects, such as strengthening resilience, improving food, and supporting sustainable livelihoods.
The joint funding initiative aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, leveraging the combined expertise of Qatar, the UK, and their delivery partners to drive transformative change.

The UK Foreign Secretary HE David Lammy said that the collaboration between the two countries has already helped alleviate suffering across the world, and that this doubling of support will help achieve so much more in the coming years.
He affirmed that the relations between the State of Qatar and the United Kingdom have reached new heights to boost trade and investment and help tackle global challenges, including in Gaza, Syria, and Somalia.
