The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) is set to host its first-ever Half Marathon on the occasion of the Qatar’s National Sport Day on February 11, 2025.
During a press conference held on Tuesday, the QOC shared key details about the event, highlighting its organizational and technical preparations.
Speaking at the press conference, Sheikh Suhaim bin Mohammed Al Thani, Chairman of the race’s organizing committee, said “We are thrilled to officially open registration for the QOC Half-Marathon, which will take place on the occasion of National Sport Day on February 11.”
Sheikh Suhaim also invited all segments of society—including professional athletes, amateurs, and families—to participate in this unique event aimed at fostering community engagement and promoting the culture of sports and physical activity in Qatar.
He also thanked the event’s partners and sponsors, reaffirming the QOC’s dedication to delivering an exceptional sports experience that aligns with Qatar’s leadership in sports and community development.
For his part, Khalid Rashid Al Marri, Executive Director of the Qatar Athletics Federation, announced that the Half-Marathon is expected to attract a huge number of participants from all age groups, and community segments.
“We firmly believe in the power of sports in enhancing physical and mental health while building strong communities.”Al Marri explained.
Salah Mahmoud Al Saadi, Assistant Director of the Sports Events Department at the QOC, revealed that the Half Marathon is open to all age groups, with an ambitious goal of attracting over 10,000 participants.
Al Saadi noted that the event will take place at Lusail Boulevard, a location renowned for hosting major events during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the AFC Asian Cup 2024.
Sheikh Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, Head of Media Relations at the QOC, emphasized that this initiative underscores the QOC’s ongoing commitment to promoting National Sport Day as a platform to support Qatar’s vision and raise awareness about the integral role of sports in enhancing individual and community well-being.
