Minister of Commerce and Industry HE Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani held productive discussions with high-ranking UK officials during his official visit to London. The minister met with Jonathan Reynolds, UK secretary of state for business and trade, and Douglas Alexander, minister of state for trade policy and economic security.

The meetings focused on bolstering Qatar-UK cooperation in the critical areas of trade, investment, and industry. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further enhancing their economic ties, reflecting the strong strategic partnership between the two nations.

Sheikh Faisal underscored the significant progress in Qatar-UK trade relations, noting that bilateral trade has already exceeded $2.7 billion. He emphasised the importance of concluding the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the United Kingdom, which is poised to create new opportunities for trade and investment and strengthen economic integration between the regions.

During the discussions, the minister highlighted Qatar’s ambitious economic strategies, which prioritize fostering a competitive business environment and empowering the private sector. He elaborated on the wide range of incentives, forward-thinking legislation, and investment opportunities that Qatar offers to global investors, entrepreneurs, and business leaders.

Jonathan Reynolds and Douglas Alexander commended Qatar’s economic resilience and innovation, expressing optimism about expanding cooperation in emerging sectors such as renewable energy, technology, and industrial development. Both parties recognised the potential for joint initiatives that leverage the unique strengths of their respective economies.
