Engineers Australia Qatar Chapter hosted its Annual Gala Dinner on December 5 at the iconic Fairmont Ballroom. The event brought together more than 350 guests, to commemorate a year of achievements and contributions to the engineering community. The programme included welcome messages from Romilly Madew and Raj Aseervatham, the CEO & president of Engineers Australia, and Lia Finocchiaro, the chief minister of Australia’s Northern Territory who addressed the guests via video.

Australian Ambassador to Qatar HE Shane Flanagan reflected on the strong bilateral relationship between Qatar and Australia, emphasising the vital role engineering professionals play in strengthening this bond. He highlighted how collaborative efforts between the two countries in infrastructure, innovation, and technology contribute to sustainable development and shared prosperity. He also commended Engineers Australia Qatar Chapter for its dedication to fostering professional development and creating platforms for knowledge exchange, underscoring its importance in supporting the engineering community’s growth in Qatar.

President of Engineers Australia Qatar Chapter Eng Asif Rahmany highlighted the Chapter’s milestones and shared a vision for the future, focusing on advancing sustainability and innovation in engineering. The event featured an insightful presentation titled ‘Leveraging AI for Maximising QatarEnergy LNG’ by Ahmad Abdul-Sattar Ahmed.

A dynamic panel discussion on sustainability and technological innovation, moderated by Sabeena, brought together leading experts from diverse sectors. The panellists included Shaikha Athba Al Thani, Mohamed Mohsen of ECG, Jennifer Stables of AECOM, and Ziad Yehya of QatarEnergy LNG.

Fellowship and Chartership recognitions were presented to deserving members, and sponsors and local volunteering organisations were acknowledged for their invaluable contributions. Chief guests, speakers, sponsors and panellists were honoured with mementoes in appreciation of their participation. The evening, sponsored by ECG, Medgulf, JAK Construction, GHD and the Western Australian government, also included a raffle draw that added excitement to the celebrations.
