MoscowcTypeface:> Russia wants to keep its military bases in Syria after the removal of Bashar al-Assad from power, and plans to discuss their location with the country’s future leadership.

“We are seeing a period of transformation and extreme instability, so it will naturally take time, and then it will take a serious conversation with those who come to power,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Monday, the Russian news agency Interfax reported.

Russia maintains a number of facilities in Syria, including air and naval bases.

It is now important to clarify the question of the security of the Russian military in Syria, said Peskov. The Russian soldiers themselves had taken all necessary precautions, the Kremlin spokesman said, without providing any details. A withdrawal is not currently planned. (DPA)
