The Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) recently participated in the 9th Sharm El Sheikh International Arbitration Conference, held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
The event was organized by the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA), and focused on the theme, ‘The Role of State Courts in International Arbitration’.
The conference was attended by prominent figures, including the Egyptian Minister of Justice, along with representatives from notable organizations such as the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the African Legal Consultative Organization, and the International Council for Commercial Arbitration.
Over 300 leading experts, including representatives from arbitration institutions and chambers of commerce across the Arab world and internationally, participated in the event.
The QICCA delegation was led by Sheikh Dr Thani bin Ali Al Thani, Board Member for International Relations, and included Ibrahim Shahbik, the Secretary General.
During the conference sessions, speakers praised arbitration in Qatar, highlighting QICCA’s extensive experience in managing and organizing arbitration processes involving foreign companies. They emphasized that Qatar’s arbitration framework is a model example of effective dispute resolution, showcasing the country’s leadership in this field.
In statements,Sheikh Dr Thani bin Ali Al Thani underscored QICCA’s commitment to promoting the culture of arbitration in Qatar. He noted that the Centre has organised many international conferences on arbitration and a multitude of specialized seminars on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).
He further highlighted that the development of rules governing ADR is considered one of the most important legislations supporting the investment and stimulating trade, as it provides an informal legal framework away from state courts for resolving commercial and civil disputes between national or foreign parties in an effective and time-saving manner.
Sheikh Dr Thani praised the Arab Arbitration Forum, which is an Arab electronic platform that focuses on the latest developments in Arab and international arbitration. He pointed out that the participation of both the Arab Arbitration Forum and QICCA in the conference aimed to support partnerships among Arab arbitration institutions and discuss the most pressing issues and developments in the field of arbitration, both regionally and internationally.
