Not only has Qatar goalkeeper Saad al Sheeb’s excelled with an outstanding show under the bar at the ongoing Asian Cup 2019, but has also won hearts of all with his gesture of embracing his UAE counterpart after Qatar’s 4-0 win in the semi-final on Tuesday.
Sheeb also posted a new continental record having maintained a successive clean sheet with his country’s national team in 6 successive matches, completing 540 minutes in the Asian Cup.
Qatar humbled the hosts their highest-ever defeat for any hosts in the continental semi-final.
The 28-year-old Sheeb has beaten the record of Iran’s standout goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand, who kept a successive clean sheet for 5 matches, only conceding a goal (a penalty) in the semi-final against Japan after 56 minutes of the starting whistle. Alireza now has a successive 506 minutes clean sheet in his credit.
Meanwhile, Qatar have also become the first nation in the history of the Asian Cup to win six matches in a row in one tournament without conceding a goal.
