DOHA: Minister of Municipality HE Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah has inaugurated Rawdat Al Hamama Park, which contains the longest air-conditioned outdoor track in the world with a length of 1,197 metres, with the aim of encouraging the public to practise jogging and walking.
The Public Works Authority, in coordination with the Public Parks Department of the Ministry of Municipality, implemented this project that serves the residents of Al Kheesa and the surrounding areas. The park can accommodate about 10,000 visitors daily and contains the largest botanical clock in Qatar, in addition to eight service kiosks, an open amphitheater that can accommodate 500 people, and separate prayer rooms and bathrooms for men and women.
The opening was attended by President of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) Eng Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Meer, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Services AffairsEng Abdullah Ahmed Al Karani, Director of the Public Parks DepartmentMohammed Ibrahim Al Sada, and a number of officials from the Ministry of Municipality and Public Works Authority.
In press statements during the opening, Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sada stressed that the opening of Rawdat Al Hamama Park reflects the great interest that the Ministry of Municipality pays to establishing and developing public parks and gardens according to the latest international specifications, to be a healthy, recreational and sporting outlet for families in various regions, adding: “This distinctive park represents a qualitative addition to the recreational facilities in the State of Qatar, and contributes to enhancing the services provided to the public.”
He pointed out the increase in the number of public parks in the State of Qatar, as their number increased from 56 parks in 2010 to 147 parks in 2024, an increase of 163%, while green spaces increased from 2,614,994 square meters in 2010 to 18,49,246 square meters in 2024, and the individual share of green space increased from 1.0 square meters in 2010 to 5.6 square meters in 2024.
He explained that the area of public parks, plazas and green spaces on the Corniche, affiliated with the Ministry of Municipality, amounted to more than 3 million square metres, noting that the total number of trees and shrubs planted across the country within the Ten Million Trees Initiative reached 840,000 trees and shrubs, equivalent to about 500 thousand square metres of green spaces.
In the same context, Eng Hamad Al Badr, Assistant Director of Buildings Projects Department at Ashghal, confirmed that the opening of Rawdat Al Hamama Park is a new achievement that reflects the Public Works Authority’s commitment to developing the recreational infrastructure in the State of Qatar, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and environmental sustainability goals, saying, “The park represents an integrated recreational destination thanks to its distinguished facilities and vast green spaces.”
Al Badr expressed his pride in the park receiving a 3-star rating according to the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS), which is a testament to the commitment to implementing best sustainability practices, such as using an automatic irrigation system with 100 percent treated water, reflecting our keenness to preserve water resources and enhance the efficiency of their use.
It is worth noting that Rawdat Al Hamama Park is a sustainable and environmentally friendly model that enhances the quality of life and contributes to humanizing cities, as part of the ongoing efforts to enhance sustainability and develop recreational infrastructure in the State of Qatar, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, which seeks to achieve green and sustainable cities. Rawdat Al Hamama Park extends over a total area of 176,000 square meters, including 138,000 square meters of green spaces that constitute 80 percent of the total area.
The park includes 1,042 trees of 21 local and international species, and features modern facilities including an automatic irrigation system using 100 percent treated water.
The park also includes an outdoor air-conditioned jogging and walking track, 1,197 metres long, the longest in the world, and another 1,486-metre bicycle track, in addition to areas designated for children’s games and fitness games, and shaded family seating areas.
