Qatar Airways (QA) has congratulated Qatar’s national team for winning the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, beating Japan 3-1 in a thrilling final match on February 1 at Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the UAE, in front of a TV audience of millions.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Akbar al Baker said: "This is a very proud moment for the State of Qatar. We could not be more proud of our national team for their inspiring performance throughout the tournament, despite much political pressure and an ill-judged campaign undertaken by the tournament’s host country, which is taking part in the illegal blockade against our country. Qatar’s national team, shrewdly managed by Félix S?nchez, has truly inspired all of us with their resilience, dignity and footballing skill.
"This achievement testifies to the power of sport in bringing people together – one of our core beliefs as an airline, and one reason why Qatar Airways has invested in a host of top-tier global sporting sponsorships. We extend our warmest congratulations to the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani and all the residents of Qatar on this achievement.”
On February 1, QA held a public screening of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup final match between Qatar and Japan at the Airport Park next to QA’s headquarters. Families and individuals from across Doha came together to cheer for Qatar’s national football team, which performed incredibly throughout the Asian Cup.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, QA will offer a special discount of up to 25 percent on fares. Privilege Club members will also have the opportunity to earn up to double Qmiles and Qpoints. The sale will be valid from February 3 to 14, with travel validity from February 3 to August 31, 2019.
In addition, Qatar Duty Free (QDF) will be offering a special two week-long sale from February 2 to 14, with a 20 percent discount on purchases at QDF stores.
QA is proud to sponsor premier sporting clubs around the world. The airline recently revealed multi-year sponsorship agreements with several global sports entities, including leading German football team FC Bayern München AG, Italian football club AS Roma and Argentinian club Boca Juniors. In addition, QA is the official airline sponsor of Conmebol professional football competitions across South America, including the Copa Conmebol Libertadores, Copa Conmebol Sudamericana and the Conmebo Recopa.
In May 2017, QA announced a groundbreaking sponsorship deal with FIFA, which saw the award-winning airline become the Official Partner and Official Airline of FIFA until 2022. The partnership, one of the biggest sporting sponsorships in the world, will give QA extensive marketing and branding rights at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar. The agreement also sees QA become the Official Airline Partner of the 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 editions of the FIFA Club World Cup, the FIFA U-20 World Cup, the FIFA U-17 World Cup, the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, the FIFA eWorld Cup, and the FIFA Women’s World Cup, taking place in France this summer.
