KUWAIT: Minister of State for Energy Affairs HE Eng Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi has honoured the winners of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) Scientific Research Awards for the year 2022, in appreciation of their contributions to enhancing sustainability research in the field of oil and gas, with a focus on OAPEC operations.
In his capacity as the current President of OAPEC for the year 2024, the Minister presented the awards to two teams. The first award was shared between two research papers, the first by Dr Mamoun Absi Halabi from the Lebanese Republic, and Dr Faisal Salman Al-Humaidan from the State of Kuwait, entitled 'Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage: Prospects for Decarbonization of the Oil and Gas Industry', and the second research by a team consisting of Dr Lamia Ahmed Abu Sheba, Eng Heba Bishr Nasr, Eng Yahya Nassar, and Enas Ibrahim Zahran from the Arab Republic of Egypt, entitled 'Implications of Decarbonization and the Circular Carbon Economy in the Oil and Gas Sector for OAPEC Countries'.
The awards were presented during the 113th OAPEC Ministerial Meeting in Kuwait City, as part of the organisation’s decision to dedicate this edition of its awards to the field of new and renewable energy, including modern technologies for renewable energy production, national and international policies that promote the deployment of renewable energy, challenges facing the deployment and use of renewable energy, and other related issues.
This approach reflects OAPEC’s drive to enhance sustainability in this field and promote low-carbon oil and gas operations in member states.
