Tribune News NetworkDohaVisitors to the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) had a date with a diverse Yemeni artistic show hosted by the Drama Theater on Friday and Saturday. The show was part of the ‘Yemeni Day’ event, which was organised by Katara in cooperation with the Embassy of Yemen and Qatar Museums, as part of the activities of the Qatar-Middle East-North Africa-South Asia 2022 Cultural Year.Ambassador of Yemen to Qatar His Excellency Rajeh Hussein Badi explained that the aim of this day is to highlight the diversity, cultural and artistic richness of Yemeni society. He said, “As everyone knows, Yemen is a country rich in cultural heritage, which varies in the diversity of its terrain, where we find Sana’a art, Hadrami art, Lahiji art, Kukabani art and Yafei art. Today, we have tried to highlight this diversity, which shows its connection to the difference of Yemen’s geography, so we find art related to mountainous areas, art of coastal areas and art in the desert region, in addition to the participation of the great Yemeni artist Hussein Moheb and the emerging artist Maria Qahtan.The Yemeni ambassador thanked the Katara for providing all facilities and support for the success of this event.For his part, Safwat Al Ghashem, cultural counsellor at the Yemeni Embassy, said that the Yemeni Day event falls within the activities of the Qatar Cultural Year, the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia, which is distinguished from the rest of the cultural years organised by Qatar Museums in cooperation with a number of institutions, including the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara). “This coincides with Qatar’s hosting of the World Cup, which is a great achievement for all Arabs. We must all celebrate this success and achievement. We thank Qatar for having invited us at the Embassy of Yemen to participate in this event and present a cultural legacy that reflects the cultural and artistic richness of our country,” he said.Friday was dedicated to dignitaries, where a group of distinguished individuals were honoured in various fields, including His Excellency Sheikh Hassan bin Mohammed Al Thani, Member of Qatar Museums; HE Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kawari, Minister of State; HE Ambassador Ibrahim Youssef Abdullah Fakhro, director of Qatar Museums; Dr Muhammad Salih Al Misfer, professor of Political Science at Qatar University, and artist Mudhi Al Hajri. The second day was attended by a diverse audience of different nationalities and cultures who enjoyed the various musical presentation that conveyed the Yemeni musical heritage through a folkloric show and a segment by the Yemeni artist Hussein Moheb and the young artist Maria Qahtan.On previous occasions, Katara had organised a number of art exhibitions that shed light on Yemeni heritage and culture, including the one presented by the Qatari artist and plastic artist Moudhi Al Hajri through the exhibitions ‘Yemen is a love that captivates you’ and ‘My Travels in the Country’.
