The Ministry of Municipality (MoM), in cooperation with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), opened the Al Thameed and Al Sudan parks in Al Rayyan area, in conjunction with the Qatar National Day (QND) 2024 celebrations.
The parks were opened in the presence of Assistant Undersecretary for Public Services Affairs at the MoM Eng Abdullah Ahmed Al Karani and Director General of Al Rayyan Municipality Jaber Hassan Al Jaber.
This comes within the framework of the ministry’s continuous efforts to provide green spaces that meet the needs of the residents of the neighbourhoods, which contributes to enhancing the well-being of society and improving the quality of life.
The Director of the Public Parks Department Eng Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sada said that the opening of the two parks is part of the ongoing efforts to develop the parks and gardens system in the country, in line with the Third National Development Strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030, noting that the ministry focuses on establishing parks in the neighbourhoods areas with the aim of increasing green spaces and providing multiple recreational facilities that suit the privacy of those areas.
He added that the ministry is working on implementing new projects with international specifications during the coming period to enhance sustainable development and improve the urban environment, noting that the number of public parks in Qatar has reached 149 parks and recreational areas, including 120 public gardens, 25 plazas, and four corniches.
The Al Thameed Park extends over a total area of 15,747 square metres, of which 9,892 square metres are open green spaces, and includes 438 metres of pedestrian paths, 363 metres of bicycle paths, and 343 metres of jogging paths. It also contains a 454 square metres of children’s play area, and fitness facilities, in addition to 212 trees and 1,054 shrubs as a natural fence, with the provision of 29 parking spaces and 135 lighting units.
As for the Sudan Park, it extends over a total area of 2,303 square metres, of which 1,471 square metres are green spaces, and includes a 164-metre-long pedestrian path, a 258-square-metre children’s play area, in addition to 39 trees and 107 square metres of shrubs as a natural fence, with the provision of 12 parking spaces and 57 lighting units.
Through these projects, the Ministry of Municipality affirms its commitment to providing a healthy and safe urban environment and enhancing the role of parks as recreational places that take into account the needs of all segments of society, in line with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.
