IslamabadcTypeface:> Pakistan on Thursday condemned fresh sanctions by the United States against its ballistic missile programme, warning the move would have dangerous implications for stability in South Asia.

Islamabad called the step “unfortunate and biased” in a strongly worded statement the country’s Foreign Ministry issued hours after the US State Department announced sanctions against private and state-owned companies linked to the missile programme. “Such policies have dangerous implications for strategic stability of our region and beyond,” the statement added.

“Pakistan’s strategic programme is a sacred trust bestowed by 240 million people upon its leadership.”

The State Department said it would put three private and one state-owned companies under sanctions because they were linked to the development of ballistic missiles. (DPA)
