The Ambassador of the Republic of Finland to Qatar, HE Pekka Voutilainen, has commended the role of Qatar in promoting peace globally through its mediation efforts in resolving conflicts in the region.

The envoy was addressing at a reception hosted by him to celebrate the 107th National Day of Finland, which coincided with 50 years of bilateral relations between the two countries. Present on the occasion were HE Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry; HE Ambassador Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro, Director of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ambassadors, members of the business community, and guests.

The Finnish envoy said, “The bilateral relations between Qatar and Finland have never been this good, they are better than ever.”

The envoy praised the leadership of Qatar for its successful presidency of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), during which the first-ever summit between the European Union and the GCC took place, “an achievement that reflects Qatar’s diplomatic influence and dedication to fostering international dialogue”.

He said that In September this year, a significant milestone was marked with the visit of the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Finland, accompanied by a large delegation. “This visit highlighted a year filled with high-level exchanges, political consultations, and numerous initiatives across various sectors. The cooperation between Qatar and Finland has deepened remarkably, and both countries are pleased with the ongoing collaboration.”

The envoy said that looking ahead, the future of bilateral relations between Finland and Qatar remains bright, with both countries anticipating more visits and new opportunities in 2025. He invited those present to visit Finland, describing it as “Europe’s best-kept secret, renowned for its pristine natural beauty, pure air and water, and a welcoming atmosphere”.

Finland’s unique seasons, including the enchanting white and green winters, offer a distinctive experience that is sure to captivate any visitor, he noted.

In his concluding speech, the ambassador thanked the embassy staff for organising the event and extended special thanks to the Qatar Music Academy for performing the national anthems of both countries.

He also acknowledged the invaluable support of HE Ibrahim Yousif Fakhro, Chief of Protocol, for his assistance in making the celebration possible.

With a message of optimism for both Finland and Qatar, he emphasized the ongoing and promising future of their bilateral relations.
